The largest social game titled Adventure World is coming, with the most features incomparable by others and under a new genre termed as “social adventure”.
Unlike the iconic Ville-styled Zynga titles of ‘invest and express’, Adventure World takes a path less traveled, leading players instead into a world of exploration and discovery. The story-driven journey of adventure is all for searching El Dorado, the lost City of Gold, and treasures hidden there.
Vast spread of world is made up of five chapters, namely Deep Jungle, Mountain, Cavern, Volcano and the last El Dorado, which are pieced together by 200 quests in 30 maps, each 40 times as large as the biggest of Farmville maps. Not only vast, these maps are also elaborately designed in full screen with much art, a 3D perspective and high frame rates not seen in any other Zynga works, which is made possible by the application of a new engine.
“The Legend of Zelda was our largest aspiration for the gameplay,” says Nabeel Hyatt, who is the general manager of Zynga Boston Studio, the very developer of Adventure World. Thus, it is quite predictable of the gameplay to contain the traversal of different landscapes, discovery and puzzle-solving. Every activity consumes Energy, which, once drained up, can be recharged by simply waiting for automatic refill, or purchasing for real money, or receiving friends’ help. Moreover, Energy will also be drained as a penalty if players accidentally or unavoidably trigger traps, which may be circumvented if with help of certain tools. That is where premium items come in.
Among the 20,000 objects and 1,000 art assets, some can be earned through finishing quests or unveiling puzzles, while others, more useful in the adventure of course such as dynamite or compass, can only be bought. For instance, to solve the puzzle concerning the acquirement of a jewel, bare-handed players have to manage to raise a platform up to the dais where the jewel is by pushing blocks into switches in the right sequence, while those who have a grappling hook gadget at hand may just bypass the trouble to get the piece by grappling up to the dais directly.
Of course, friends can help a lot, especially those equipped with advanced, handy tools. Since it costs a lot to own all needy gadgets, or the very ‘preferred tools’ in diversified environments, players can always turn to friends’ help, asking favors by using their tools to get through specific plight. Besides player friends, players can also gain non-playable character helpers from the in-game Adventure Society, one member per map.
Besides, different usages of a tool upgrade it differently; and different choices of path result in different gameplay. Hyatt says, it is possible to go through a map without triggering any traps or wild animals. To put it simply, playing Adventure World is fun and replaying it is still so.
