A perfect city doesn’t always end with beautiful people, a prospering housing market, and convenient commodities. The final piece in the jigsaw lies in the transport system, to link these together. That is exactly what the player will be in charge of in Finnish studio developers Colossal studios’ new simulation video game, Cities in Motion.
In Cities in Motion, players will be placed in charge of creating and maintaining the perfect transport system across four European cities; Vienna, Berlin, Helsinki and Amsterdam. The cities’ economic pulse depends on you; and it’s up to you to maintain links across towns as the citizens’ social and economic needs evolves and the public are as dependant on transport as ever. As the city’s public transport chief, you are in charge of building roads, stations and transit lines to meet the public’s demand.
Citizens currently unhappy with their commute or lack of access will be indicated by an unhappy icon above their head, and it’s up to you to rectify it. There are five transport and vehicle types; bus, tram, metro, helicopter, and boats, and it’s up to you to delve into your budget and create new routes. As well as these five vehicles types, there are also seven different social groups and thirty different vehicles. However, simply laying down a route is not as far as it goes. As the game runs from the year 1920 to 2020, it’s up to you to keep an eye on new developments, as newer vehicles and system offer many different advantages.
Colossal Studios have already announced the game will be designed with low system requirements in mind, and with a first look at the game, the graphics certainly represent this. However, graphics do not always give the final verdict on the game, and Cities in Motion certain contain enough interesting features to keep the game play interesting. Although the basic principles of the game are not exactly new, city management and transportation simulation games have certainly been lacking in recent years. Will this release see 2011 as the revival of such games? It remains to be seen, but much excitement and hype surrounds this game.
Stay focused on this upcoming transport tycoon simulation game Cities in Motion, and it is expected to be released in early 2011.
