Pronounced by Paradox Interactive on March 1st, 2011 and released as part of Paradox’s new online portal, Paradox connect, Gettysburg: Armored Warfare brings futuristic weapons to an alternate reality of the Civil War with history as its great background. As a free-to-play, online action game, Gettysburg: Armored Warfare provides players with 32 vs 32 battles in which Union and Confederate troops fight with each other. It is a hybrid Real-time-Strategy (RTS)/ First-Person shooter (FPS) game supporting 64 players per server which allows players to use automatic weapons and technology brought from 2060 to fight in 32 vs 32 skirmishes.

In the game, an evil genius who masters high-level technologies goes back to history from 2060 with the hope of using new technologies and future weaponary to change the course of history, that is, to let the South win the war. He arms the Confederate side at the turning point of the Civil War–Gettysburg, while a future government finds his plot in time and equips the Union side to stop the trend. Players who are the persistent side of the game can play a role of general on either side. Generals with the highest rank can get high-level weapons. They can level up and get new abilities when they reach a new rank, and meanwhile, they can also build and equip their armies by using their point-buy basis. Thus, players in this game can make a change between the reality of the Civil War and the reality of 2060.
