Firefall has been developed since 2005 and it was officially unveiled at the Seattle PAX 2010. Firefall is presented as an online action MMO shooter game, which defines players in both competitive and cooperative gameplay. According to the press release on Sept 4, FireFall is due out for release by the end of 2011.
Firefall takes place in the science fiction future of 2500 years when humanity unite together and cope with the davastating Energy storm caused by the Crystite, which swallows and blankets human’s planet. The survivors are still struggling to regain territory inch by inch and find the technology to their survival.
Red 5 Studios, Firefall is figure action game team. The game revolves around a particular online campaign which takes place in “a wide open world, inviting players to stop the progression of Melding and fight for the survival of mankind against the army of the Elect . It will equip, develop new technological improvements and progress (as they gain levels) through the different classes available.
In development since 2005, Firefall (then known by the codename “T-Project”) has long been very mysterious, simply presented as the first draft of Red 5 Studios MMO (composed largely of veterans of the gaming industry and one of team once contributed weapons for Blizzard’s World of Warcraft).
The game now sought graphics generated by the engine offset by Mak and Kern, this crossbred MMO FPS should leave the spotlight to community interaction. Inspired by “certain behaviors sports, the T-Project” was presented as competitive as the content (based on PvP, so SPF) but also cooperative in which the guilds should play a major role.
Developer’s Financial Support
The T-Project will be published by Webzen, a leading Korean MMORPG publisher in Asia. However, in June 2009, Webzen announced the closure of its U.S. branch due to financial difficulties and sells T-Project to Red 5 Studios.
In January 2010, rumors suggest that the Red 5 studio run into financial difficulties. A few weeks later, in March 2010, the studio The9 Gaming Company, Chinese leading online game publisher that initially published World of Warcraft, announced that it has invested up to 20 million dollars to ensure the development of FireFall.
“When I founded Red 5, I knew I wanted to do something different than anything I’d done before.” says CEO and Chief Creative Officer Mark Kern, who led the development for World of Warcraft. “I wanted to take the best of what I learned making online games and bring that to skill-based shooters.” Scott Youngblood, former lead designer behind groundbreaking multiplayer shooter Tribes, couldn’t agree more. “When Mark brought me on to help design Firefall, it was obvious to me that he was dedicated to building something different. With Firefall, I’m finally able to make the game of my dreams.”
